Description

Echo is made as a tribute to a real elephant by the same name, who was the “most studied elephant in the world”. I honor Echo because her entire life made it possible for us to now know so much more about these wonderful animals. I thought that Echo needed attention & recognition! Here is a bit of what Wikipedia says about her: “Echo was an African bush elephant matriarch who was studied for over 30 years by ethologist Cynthia Moss, beginning in 1973,[1] & was the subject of several books & films. She was the first subject of the Amboseli Elephant Research Project, the longest-running study of a land mammal. The study of Echo & her family contributed significantly to the understanding of elephants, including their life-cycles, methods of communication, emotional lives, & cooperative care of the young.[2] Echo died at the age of 65, in 2009.[2] ” My Echo is made with a copper colored aluminum back plate, a fancy teapot with petty drape/scroll pattern on it, & big clam shell type molds for ears. Her eyes are brass clock gears, & her hat is a copper cup with a crown-like piece that makes a perfect topper for Echo, although I'm not sure of it's original purpose. A sugar bowl lid with a fancy topper fits just right in the teapot opening. Echo's back plate is 9 inches across, & Echo herself extends 9.5 inches from the wall.
